A Phase III ESA, also called environmental remediation, encompasses the activities undertaken to clean up or contain contamination identified through Phase I and Phase II site assessments. Remediation can involve removing contaminated soil, treating groundwater, installing containment systems or implementing institutional controls to manage residual contamination to levels acceptable for the intended land use.
