Process Safety Management (PSM) is OSHA’s standard (29 CFR 1910.119) that requires employers who handle highly hazardous chemicals above threshold quantities to implement a comprehensive program to prevent catastrophic releases. PSM covers 14 elements including process hazard analysis, operating procedures, mechanical integrity, management of change, incident investigation and emergency planning.
