Wastewater Neutralization System Design
Client: International Chemical Manufacturer
Challenge
A multinational chemical manufacturer wanted to repurpose an existing storage tank in their chemical manufacturing facility for use in a new water neutralization process. The project required installation of a new high-volume pump, upgraded piping and additional instrumentation to effectively neutralize wastewater generated as a byproduct of the chemical manufacturing process. As a result, the neutralized water can now be safely and responsibly discharged in an environmentally sound manner.
Solution
Altamira utilized LiDAR to collect critical measurements of the existing tank, pipe racks and structures and develop a 3D CAD model. This model was used in the design process to accurately locate the new pump and optimize piping routing through the existing facility, enabling integration of the pump, tank and neutralization chemical feed systems. The Altamira team also collaborated closely with site subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop a revised control and operational philosophy to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
As part of the project, Altamira performed detailed hydraulic calculations, developed a 3D piping model and evaluated existing pipe racks and structural supports using an industry-standard stress analysis program to confirm accuracy. The team also provided design deliverables, including new civil foundation and pipe support drawings. All work was completed in accordance with ASME B31.3 and applicable corporate standards.
Results
Through close coordination with facility personnel, the issued design packages accurately reflected site conditions, increasing confidence in field fit-up, reducing the potential for rework and enabling timely client review and decision-making.
